Jadan Baugh, Florida Gators still have big tests ahead of them

Baugh "hit the Heisman" against Auburn and did so again against Ole Miss, and he very well could be the early-season favorite to win the award.

He's being egged on by his teammates, who clearly believe he can win college football's most prestigious individual award.

“I’ve been sending a message all year, and not just me, the whole team,” Baugh said on College Sports Radio on Sirius XM after the win over Ole Miss (h/t On3). “They even tell me, ‘You better hit it.’ I sometimes (I’m) trying to be chill. You know, just come out there and just have a great time, and then do something I love. But my teammates won’t let me. They tell me all the time, ‘You better hit it.’”

The Gators are now ranked No. 8 in the nation and Sumrall's quick turnaround in Gainesville is one of college football's top early-season stories.

They've got a ton of momentum, but now the task ahead of Sumrall, Baugh and the rest of the team is keeping that momentum going.

Beating Auburn on the road was impressive. Beating Ole Miss at home was a statement.

To be considered a true contender, though, the Gators will have to survive the gauntlet coming up of No. 25 Missouri, No. 1 Texas, and No. 2 Georgia, with a game against South Carolina thrown in between.

That's going to be easier said than done, especially with the games against Mizzou and Texas coming on the road, but this Gators team has proven to have the firepower and zest for winning that could lead to a few more statement wins.

Even if not, you can almost guarantee that Baugh will keep running like the best back in the nation.

Through four games, he's averaging 150 yards rushing per contest.
