Colson Montgomery becomes the second-youngest player in White Sox history to hit a postseason home run

Colson Montgomery has written quite a tale this season in baseball. He has gone from setting a dubious strikeout record two days before the end of the MLB regular season to becoming the second-youngest player in Chicago White Sox history to hit a postseason home run. 

In the final month of the regular season, Montgomery struggled at the plate, going 8-for-81 (.099 batting average) with two home runs, 10 RBI, eight walks and an alarming 42 strikeouts. That includes an ugly 0-for-22 mark over his final six regular-season games, forcing the White Sox to drop him to ninth in the batting order. 

But the slugger has made a fresh start in the postseason, blasting a 432-foot home run in Game 1 of the AL wild-card game against the Houston Astros. His first career postseason home run provided Chicago with a 4-0 lead over the Astros.

At 24 years and 214 days, he has reached a key milestone. Montgomery is the second-youngest player in White Sox history to hit a home run. He's behind only Luis Robert Jr., who accomplished the feat at 23 years and 59 days in Game 3 of the 2020 AL wild-card series.
