South Carolina's Shane Beamer addresses Dylan Stewart's future after suspension, incidents 

Shane Beamer will decide what Dylan Stewart's future with the South Carolina Gamecocks looks like.

Sure, South Carolina suspended him with a joint statement alongside the SEC, but whether or not Stewart returns to the field, or even returns to the team, is Beamer's decision and his alone.

The head coach made that clear while speaking to the media on Tuesday.

“No, [Stewart is] not with the team right now,” Beamer said in his weekly news conference (h/t On3). “And to answer your question and [a prior] question, his role or involvement on this team will be decided, you know, going forward, by me. But right now, he’s not with the football team this week.”

One would imagine that South Carolina wouldn't mind if Stewart came back into the fold after this suspension. From a pure X's and O's standpoint, he has the potential to be one of the best pass-rushers in college football.

In 2024 and 2025 combined, he notched 56 tackles and 11 sacks.

This season has not been good for Stewart, though. He missed two games coming back from an injury, and then in his return against Mississippi State, he notched just one solitary tackle.

Frustration boiled over in Week 4 in a 49-18 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Stewart refused to come out of the game when an assistant coach tried to get a substitute in for him, and that led to a sideline argument. Stewart also got into it with Beamer on the sidelines.

The final straw was after Stewart threw a punch at the helmet of Alabama tight end Josh Ford in the fourth quarter of the blowout loss. The refs did not see that moment, but the SEC later determined that he had made "egregious contact" with the Alabama tight end.
