Dallas Cowboys second-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer may already be in owner Jerry Jones' bad books.

In a Tuesday interview with KRLD-FM in Dallas, Jones said there was "no explanation" for some of the coach's clock management late in the fourth quarter of a 34-31 Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Rio de Janeiro. That ranged from questionable play-calling to telling quarterback Dak Prescott to throw the ball away on a potential go-ahead touchdown to kicking it deep, which set up Tyler Loop's game-winning field goal.

In what may have been an attempt to get back in Jones' good graces, Schottenheimer apologized for his gaffes during his Tuesday news conference.

"I didn't do very good in the last 28 seconds," the coach said (h/t Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team). "I felt like I overcoached Dak on third down. ... I'll take accountability for it. I hurt our chances to win that game. I'll be better and I am better than that."

Schottenheimer must be, or Jones may grow even more irate than he did during his Tuesday session. The owner doesn't like to be embarrassed, especially in front of a record-breaking international audience. CBS announced Tuesday that the Week 3 contest was the most-watched international game in NFL history, peaking at 30 million-plus viewers and averaging 24.904 million.

Schottenheimer insists he and Jones remain on good terms, despite the international humiliation. The coach also said he will consider the owner's constructive criticism.

"I'm man enough to take mistakes on," Schottenheimer said (h/t Nicole Hutchison of the team website). "Jerry and I had a very good conversation. He understands that there was mistakes that I made. He was terrific with sound advice. He and I are aligned very closely."

Schottenheimer better remain aligned with Jones and win more games. The Cowboys will be 1-3 if they lose to the winless Houston Texans in a Week 4 road matchup (Fox, 1 p.m. ET). Falling into an early hole would hurt Dallas' playoff chances and make Jones wonder if the coach is the judicious leader the team needs.
