The Florida Gators and head coach Todd Golden picked up a big commitment earlier from four-star power forward Ian Condon.
Condon is ranked as the No. 18 power forward in the class of 2027, according to 247Sports. He's also the top overall recruit from Washington D.C.
The DMV area (D.C., Maryland and Virginia) has produced some elite recruits over the years in both football and basketball, so being the top-ranked hooper from the DMV in 2027 is no small deal.
Condon committed to the Gators on Tuesday over an interest list that featured Georgia Tech, Boston College, NC State, Syracuse, Northwestern, Stanford, Notre Dame and others.
First of all is size. He checks in at 6-foot-7, 220 pounds as a senior at Sidwell Friends School. You can't teach that kind of size, and one would imagine he'll only pack on muscle once he gets to Gainesville.
It's not just size, though. Condon has the basketball skills to be a modern-day stretch 4. He's a good athlete and has a sweet stroke from the outside.
He averaged over 18 points per game in EYBL play and hit 36 percent of his threes on seven attempts per game. That's big-time shooting from a big man.
Condon's size and shooting ability will make him a pick-and-pop threat at the college level, but he still has the size to be a traditional big as a rebounder. He averaged 6.5 rebounds per game, including 2.1 on the offensive glass.
“I describe my play style and my game as versatile and being able to score at all three levels, in the paint, in the midrange, and beyond the arch," Condon told Rivals when asked for a self-scout. "An elite shooter. Also a good rebounder and smart defender. Someone who plays/works very hard.”
Condon is Golden's first 2027 commitment.
