The Dallas Cowboys are 1-2 heading into the Week 4 matchup against the Houston Texans, and while Jerry Jones and company would rather see a better record, quarterback Dak Prescott's stats really tell a different story.
That's not lost on Garrett Podell of CBS Sports. In a feature out ahead of Week 4, he names Prescott the sixth-best quarterback in the league. That puts him above players like Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow.
Numbers don't lie, and as Podell reports, Prescott is tied for fifth in the NFL in passing touchdowns with seven, ninth in passer rating (107.2) and fifth in EPA per drop-back at 0.28. Those are incredible numbers, especially considering that the Cowboys haven't won the majority of their games.
"The Cowboys are essentially at a point with their defense and game management that they need Dak Prescott to play near-perfect or perfect football," Podell states in the feature. "He nearly gave them that in a duel with Lamar Jackson, but his special teams and defense let him down in the game's last seven seconds."
This team isn't winning, but it's not Prescott's fault. During the team's Week 3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the defense wasn't able to protect the field at the tail end of the game, setting up the Ravens for a win. But it could have just as easily been the Cowboys.
Defense has been the Achilles' heel of this team for a while now, and that hasn't changed. Now, the Cowboys will try to make their record 2-2 against a winless Texans team.
