A Wednesday story suggested that the Kansas City Chiefs could be a "spot to watch for" a potential acquisition of a wide receiver from a different team ahead of the NFL trade deadline, which will arrive on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET. That same story mentioned that teams "are curious" to see what the Jacksonville Jaguars will do with wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. over the next month or so.
For a piece published on Friday, ESPN's Dan Graziano shared an update on the Thomas-related rumors that have hovered over the Jaguars since this past winter.
Specifically, Graziano predicted that "teams will try to get Brian Thomas Jr. from the Jaguars" this fall.
"I don't know whether they will succeed, because the Jaguars still acknowledge that Thomas offers something their other wide receivers don't from a talent and physical profile standpoint," Graziano explained. "But the 2024 first-rounder isn't a big part of the Jaguars' offense right now, and there are a lot of teams looking for difference-makers at wide receiver. Could someone offer the Jags enough to change their minds?"
Over the first three weeks of this season, Thomas tallied just seven receptions on 12 targets for 88 yards and zero touchdowns as the Jaguars went 2-1. While the Chiefs began the campaign with three straight wins, the perception has existed for months that the club could look to acquire at least one additional weapon for quarterback Patrick Mahomes ahead of the trade deadline.
On paper, Marvin Harrison Jr. of the Arizona Cardinals could also be an option for the Chiefs if Kansas City wants to make a big splash regarding its passing attack. That said, it sounds like Graziano doesn't expect the Chiefs to make such a headline-grabbing trade before Nov. 10 ends.
"Kansas City gets rumored as a destination for a lot of very exciting players, in part because of how uninspiring Patrick Mahomes' wide receiver group has been and how enticing it is to imagine him with a talent such as, say, Brian Thomas Jr.," Graziano added. "But while the Chiefs always seem to make a move at the deadline, it's more often to add a player such as Kadarius Toney or late-career DeAndre Hopkins than a Breece Hall or Jaylen Waddle. Kansas City made its big offensive move this offseason by signing running back Kenneth Walker III, which looks like a pretty good decision so far."
Perhaps individuals within the Chiefs will start considering a bold pre-trade-deadline move if Kansas City suffers a loss at the rival Las Vegas Raiders this coming Sunday. As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Kansas City as a 4.5-point road favorite over 3-0 Las Vegas.
