Just one short week ago, the Missouri Tigers squandered a fourth-quarter lead and fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Despite heavy criticism, Missouri remained in the AP Top 25 in the No. 25 spot.
Many questioned why Missouri was still being ranked despite constantly not showing up and performing in the biggest games. Those questions are on the back burner for now, though, as Missouri pulled off the biggest upset of the week with a dominant 45-17 win over the No. 8-ranked Florida Gators.
Missouri never trailed on Saturday in what was possibly the most shocking result of the weekend. Florida looked like world beaters in its 52-28 win over Ole Miss in Week 4, but the team that showed up in Columbia, Missouri, on Saturday was not the same.
Before Saturday, Florida was averaging 249.5 rushing yards per game. The Missouri defense held the Gators to just 42 rushing yards in Saturday's win. Florida's standout running back Jadan Baugh was held to just 13 yards on 12 carries.
Overall, the Tigers offense put up 560 yards compared to the Gators 325 yards. It was a much-needed bounce-back win for Missouri to get their season back going in the right direction after a disappointing loss in Week 4.
Mizzou, my word!

The head coach of Missouri is often under scrutiny for his team's failure to perform in big games, making Saturday's win feel even better. As noted above by Pete Nakos, it is the second top-10 win for Drinkwitz at Mizzou, with the first one coming in the 2023 Cotton Bowl against No. 9 Ohio State.
It was certainly one of the biggest SEC wins of Drinkwitz's tenure at Missouri, and he certainly heard all the noise on social media throughout the week.
Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz, on social media chatter..

“…After this game, I can’t believe anything y’all write about us or anything on Twitter. After last game, I didn’t believe anything that was said about me or about our team on Twitter, cause none of that matters…” pic.twitter.com/3GZWtyUgbC
Mizzou still has four remaining games against ranked opponents this season. Even with the win on Saturday, the narrative surrounding Drinkwitz and Missouri in big SEC games won't disappear completely.
Missouri will need to make sure it continues to play solid football and capitalize on opportunities to knock off more ranked opponents. A couple more wins against ranked teams down the stretch and the Tigers would enter College Football Playoff conversations in the back half of the season.
