Recent rumors have indicated that it may be a matter of when, not if, the Arizona Cardinals will part ways with wide receiver and 2024 No. 4 overall draft pick Marvin Harrison Jr. before the NFL trade deadline arrives on Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET.
For a piece published on Friday, NFL insider Dan Graziano of ESPN expanded on why Harrison and the Cardinals may soon agree that a divorce is what's best for everybody involved.
"The perception of Harrison from people around the league is that he isn't a fit in an Arizona offense that prioritizes [tight end Trey McBride] as its top target, and that has led some teams to think he might be available," Graziano wrote.
Over his first two games of playing under first-year head coach Mike LaFleur, Harrison tallied just one reception for 33 yards on four targets. That said, the 24-year-old recorded three catches for 40 yards in Arizona's 36-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 27. Perhaps that game will prove to be a preview of things to come, and Harrison will have more of a role in the Cardinals' offense moving forward.
A Wednesday report revealed that at least one team said that Harrison would be worth "possibly a quality Day 3 pick" as a tradable asset. Whether or not Arizona would accept such an offer for his services this fall was unclear as of the first Friday of October.
"For their part," Graziano continued, "the Cardinals have given no indication that they are eager or even interested in trading Harrison. But if he's still an afterthought in the offense a month from now, there are plenty of teams that would be interested in taking a shot on his talent and making him a bigger part of their offense."
The 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders are among teams that reportedly "could be spots to watch for potential wide receiver acquisitions in-season." As for Harrison, he will look to improve his overall numbers for the campaign when the 1-2 Cardinals play at the 2-1 New York Giants this coming Sunday.
