The San Francisco 49ers are 3-0 heading into their Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos, so that makes the stakes even higher for this team as the season progresses.
There's a real chance that Brock Purdy and the team can go all the way if they keep playing this way. But not every game is perfect, and one 49ers player is being punished by the NFL in the form of a double fine. The ruling comes after the team's Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Every weekend, the league gives punishments to players in the form of fines. These go to guys who broke the rules in the games the weekend prior.
"The NFL uses the fine schedule to outline the league's and the union's expectations for players to conduct themselves in a way that honors the sport and respects the game, themselves, their fellow players, the fans and the league," the league states.
Amid the Week 4 games, the NFL handed San Francisco linebacker Fred Warner more than $41,000 in fines for two different plays that the league called "unnecessary roughness."
Warner got a fine of $23,882 for a play involving his helmet and a hit on Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. Then, he was also fined $17,911 for a "hip drop tackle" against McBride. Those were the only fines handed to the 49ers for their game.
"The fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game," according to the league.
So, even though Warner has to pay up, at least it's for a solid cause.
