Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton paid dearly after making a game-changing play during Sunday’s contest against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Chiefs, trailing 19-17, had 3rd-and-4 in the backfield late in the fourth quarter at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. Patrick Mahomes went deep and hit Thornton in stride just outside the red zone. The 26-year-old threatened to take it all the way, but was taken down just a few yards shy of the end zone for a 55-yard gain.

But as Thornton stood up to celebrate, he realized that his ankle had twisted the other way. The fifth-year wideout crumpled to the ground again in severe pain as Chiefs trainers rushed toward him.

Thornton was carted off the field with a dislocated ankle. He left the game with five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Chiefs stay undefeated with a 30-27 win.
Doctors were reportedly able to put Thornton’s ankle back in place, allowing him to catch the team plane back to Kansas City. According to Ian Rapoport, Thornton will have a full evaluation on Monday morning and is considered out indefinitely.
