It's one of the oldest rivalries in professional sports and the NFL's longest-running one, stemming all the way back to 1921.
The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers don't like each other, and they haven't liked each other for over 100 years.
There have been various levels of embracing the hatred between the two iconic NFL franchises throughout the years from players and coaches, but both fan bases understand how passionate this rivalry can be.
One can argue that the teams are better off for understanding the significance of the game as well.
For instance, Chicago's Ben Johnson made it clear from the get-go that he's not a fan of the Packers or their head coach, Matt LaFleur.
"And to be quite frank with you, I kind of enjoyed beating Matt LaFleur twice a year," Johnson said at his introductory news conference in Chicago.
There was then this moment after the Bears beat the Packers in January of 2025:

Johnson is all-in on the rivalry, and it's noteworthy that the Bears have had the Packers' number in two of their past three games. That includes a playoff win over the Pack last season.
Through it all, and despite his 12-3 overall record against the Bears as Green Bay's head coach, LaFleur has refused to get into the weeds with Johnson.
They did share a few icy postgame handshakes last season, but even ahead of the Week 5 matchup between the Bears and Packers, LaFleur continues to take the high road.
Why doesn't he get into the rivalry publicly?
“Because this game is about players and so we’ll keep it about the players," LaFleur said on Monday. "I’m not the one out there they’re playing … don’t get me wrong. I love the rivalry. It’s awesome. It’s great. It’s intense. You can feel it on gameday. You can feel it throughout the course of the week and also the significance; I mean, they’re the defending North champions. So what a great opportunity, great challenge for us in our home stadium to play against the defending champs.”
It’s Packers-Bears week and Matt LaFleur was asked today why he doesn’t engage in rivalry trash talk publicly (a la Ben Johnson)?

Interestingly, LaFleur's team has been criticized for their inability to finish games as of late.
They also seem to fold when they get punched in the mouth, and two collapses against the Bears were part of the five-game losing skid that ended last season for the Packers.
A team takes on the personality of its head coach, so one has to wonder if the Packers may be better off if LaFleur showed a bit more aggression against his coaching rival.
Nobody is asking for a postgame chase-down à la Jim Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh, but some more fire may be necessary for LaFleur so that his team doesn't fall once again to their biggest rival.
