College football rankings: ESPN has a new leader in FPI Top 25

College football's Week 6 is in the books, and what a week it was. Now, with all the action that took place over the course of Friday and Saturday, ESPN has unveiled a totally new No. 1 in its FPI Top 25.

Notre Dame is back at No. 1. The legendary Fighting Irish moved up two spots on Sunday following their big win over Stanford, which was really a blowout at 58-7. The two-spot rise reflects just how impressive Marcus Freeman's team has looked, with both sides of the ball making a statement as the season progresses.

Quarterback CJ Carr continues to build his reputation as one of college football's rising stars. Jonaz Walton's performance gives Notre Dame another key player to rely on as the schedule gets tougher. Walton had a day to remember against Stanford, racking up 181 yards and breaking loose for a 97-yard run as Notre Dame cruised to a big win.

Notre Dame's next challenge is a significant one. It is traveling to face undefeated BYU next Saturday, Oct. 17, in a highly anticipated matchup between two teams yet to lose this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, and with Notre Dame now sitting at No. 1, the pressure will be on Freeman's squad to prove it belongs at the summit.
