The Buffalo Bills (4-1) and Los Angeles Rams (2-3) capped Week 5 with a "Monday Night Football" instant classic.
Below, we share our instant reaction to a thrilling 37-34 Bills win.
For the first time in his nine-year NFL career, Allen was on the right side of an overtime result.
"It feels good being on this side," Allen told ESPN's Laura Rutledge afterward. This one probably felt particularly good considering Buffalo overcame a sloppy performance that included a whopping 13 penalties for 112 yards and losing the turnover battle, 2-0.
With the win, the 2024 MVP improved to 1-7 in overtime, and he did so with a monster second half, when Allen accounted for 250 of his 331 total yards. For the game, he gained 121 rushing yards, the second-most of his career.

When running back James Cook fumbled on Buffalo's first overtime possession, it seemed as though Monday's game was following an all-too-familiar script. Allen's overtime misfortune would extend to another game. And if not for defensive end Gregory Rousseau's block of Rams kicker Harold Mevis's 48-yard field-goal attempt on the ensuing Los Angeles possession, it very well may have.
But for once in his career, Allen was able to celebrate at the end of overtime. Maybe, just maybe, Buffalo's run all out of bad luck.
Allen could easily be here, but we wanted to share some appreciation for an impressive effort from the big guys up front. The unit did a great job of creating running lanes for Cook, who gained 111 yards and scored two touchdowns on 25 carries.
The offensive line opened a hole for Cook in the middle of the Rams defense on the following 18-yard rush

Two plays later, they got out to block on a screen pass, which turned into a 31-yard gain for backup running back Ray Davis.

Per Sumer Sports data, the Bills averaged 4.9 yards on carries between the tackles, successfully preventing Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald from wrecking the game. The line was also solid protecting Allen, who only took one sack and averaged 2.8 seconds to throw when kept clean, according to Pro Football Focus.
Entering Week 5, Buffalo's line was the only in the league to place in the top five in both of ESPN's pass-block and run-block win rate rankings, and the backbone of the Bills offense came through time and time again in the win.
After four consecutive Monday night blowouts to begin the season, "Monday Night Football" commentators Joe Buck and Troy Aikman finally got to call a good game this season.
And Aikman was right. The game between Super Bowl hopefuls lived up to the billing, particularly in a thrilling fourth quarter when the two teams combined for 35 points. We certainly wouldn't be opposed to a Round 2 in February.
