Packers' Micah Parsons thinks Commanders' Jayden Daniels will get Dan Quinn fired

Perhaps the biggest story hovering over the Washington Commanders this week is related to whether quarterback Jayden Daniels, head coach Dan Quinn or both are responsible for the club's woeful time-management blunder in what became the Commanders' 27-27 tie with the rival New York Giants this past Sunday.

During the latest edition of his podcast, Green Bay Packers pass-rusher Micah Parsons left little doubt about his feelings on the subject.

Micah Parsons: Jayden Daniels will probably cost Dan Quinn his job

"Jayden Daniels probably cost my man Dan Quinn his job, to be honest with you," Parsons said, as shared by Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "To be honest with you. And, like, I’m a big Jayden Daniels fan. But the reality is, he probably cost a lot of people their jobs this past weekend. ...All respectfully, we get coached so much on these situations that, like, I’m a defensive player, and this s--- is programmed to me. I even know what to do in those situations. There’s no way I’m taking a sack with 14 seconds left and no timeouts. ...And, mind you, it’d be different if Jayden Daniels was a rookie. This is your third year. This is your third year. You’ve been to the NFC Championship game. You’ve been in big moments before. And to me, like even after a sack, you’re casually getting up."

Parsons was referencing how the Commanders had no timeouts when Daniels snapped the football at the Giants' 24-yard line with 13 seconds remaining in overtime of the Week 5 matchup. Daniels then showed no urgency when he ran around before he dove to the ground with eight seconds left.

Had Daniels simply thrown the ball away, the Commanders could have attempted a potential game-winning field goal.

As for why Quinn is Parsons' "man," Parsons played under Quinn when the coach served as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys from 2021 through the 2023 season.

Micah Parsons: Jayden Daniels time-management miscue "just can't happen"

While some have said that Quinn "had to have his team better prepared in that situation," one unnamed NFL game management coach told Mike Sando of The Athletic that it's very likely "Quinn and his staff told the quarterback no sack or scramble." That coach also said that there were "three errors by the quarterback: scrambling, taking the sack and not getting up fast."

Parsons seems to agree with that coach.

"This is your job, bro," Parsons added about Daniels. "This is your job to be prepared to understand the game and understand situations. That’s in your job profile. And you’re telling me, 'Oh, we’re gonna want to pay this guy eventually $60M?' This cannot happen. ...I’m a big JD5 fan, but that’s inexcusable, bro. ...This is a lack of preparation, a lack of mentality, and a lack of urgency. That just can’t happen."

As for Quinn's future, some think he could be fired during the Commanders' Week 7 bye if 1-3-1 Washington suffers a blowout loss at the 5-0 San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 19. As of Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Commanders as 7.5-point road underdogs for that "Monday Night Football" game.
