Packers' Jordan Love has high praise for WR Christian Watson

Christian Watson has slowly but surely become a superstar wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers.

That was always something the Packers thought he could be, of course. That's why they selected him with the 34th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Watson flashed elite size, athleticism, and play-making ability early on in his career, but he's seemingly always struggled to stay healthy.

His career had been the definition of "fits and starts". He'd take one step forward and then a few steps backwards due to injury.

That changed last season when he returned from a torn ACL he suffered at the end of the 2024 season. Watson played in Green Bay's final 11 games, including the playoffs, and caught 38 passes for 647 yards and seven touchdowns in that stretch.

The Packers paid Watson this offseason via a contract extension and showed belief in him that he could be a true WR1 for them, and so far in 2026, he's more than delivered.

Through five games, Watson has caught 26 passes for 474 yards and six touchdowns. He's coming off a game against the Chicago Bears that saw him put up 143 yards and two touchdowns, and that included this spectacular catch:

On Tuesday, quarterback Jordan Love spoke glowingly about his favorite receiver.

"I think he's just playing at a high level right now. He's making plays. We know what type of speed Christian has; everyone knows that. He's making plays when the ball gets in his hands. He's making contested catches," Love explained.

Jordan Love praises Christian Watson's consistency

For Love, the biggest thing for Watson has been his consistency. The quarterback said that Watson knows the playbook, the scheme, and he knows where to be in both running and passing situations.

As far as Love is concerned, he believes the sky is the limit for him and Watson.

"Now it's just seeing how far we could take this thing, with me and him and our connection and it's really -- for me -- it's just fun to watch," Love said. "When you've got a guy...on any route, you never know; he can take it to the crib at any time."

Watson is currently fifth in the NFL in receiving yards and second in the league in receiving touchdowns, behind only Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
