The Detroit Lions still have a long way to go to get to the top of the NFC North, as they're currently No. 3, but they started to cook right before the team's bye week with a healthy win over the Arizona Cardinals. Quarterback Jared Goff has been a big part of this team's success, and that's not lost on NFL analysts and experts.
On Wednesday, the NFL's official website released its quarterback rankings going into Week 6 of the league's season. They have Goff ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the league. He's up two spots in the rankings following the win over the Cardinals. That says a lot, and frankly, it also says that this team would be doing even better if its defense could improve.
"Jared Goff is quietly putting together a stellar season, torching Arizona with ease while pushing his TD-INT ratio to a perfect 12-0," Nick Shook of the NFL's website states of Goff's showing in the rankings.
In five games in 2026, Goff has completed 67.0% of his passes for 1,485 yards, averaging 7.8 yards per attempt, with 12 passing touchdowns and zero interceptions. He's also recorded 16 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, along with four fumbles.
After the Lions' win over the Cardinals, Goff talked about how the team truly complemented each other during that game.
"It is a complementary football game and you could certainly feel it," Goff said, according to the Associated Press (h/t CBS). "They were playing with energy and swagger and then we were feeding off that, getting short fields, scoring and then they would multiply that."
The Lions will hope to do it again when they take on NFC North rivals the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
