Warriors HC Steve Kerr delivers warning to NBA ticket-buyers

Stephen Curry is one of the biggest draws in the NBA. But if you want to see him live this season, his coach suggests you check the schedule first.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr warned fans to "be mindful" of whether his team was on a back-to-back before buying tickets hoping to see Curry, because the 38-year-old is going to be resting a lot.

Stephen Curry will be treated cautiously by Golden State Warriors

Curry played only 43 games last season, missing all of February and March due to a condition called "runner's knee." He also played in only both games of a back-to-back five times in 2025-26.

That may be five more times than Curry suits up for both ends of a back-to-back this season. At age 38, Curry needs more rest and care. That's why Kerr has committed to resting Curry more, and even keeping him below his usual limit of 32 minutes early in the season, which Kerr calls his "pitch count."

While the Warriors are starved for offensive creation beyond Curry, especially with Jimmy Butler out until at least 2027, they'll have to be able to put together points while Curry is resting or sitting out entirely. A big burden will fall on fourth-year guard Brandin Podziemski, recently rewarded with a five-year rookie extension.

Golden State Warriors have tough decisions about back-to-backs

Curry isn't the only member of the Warriors who will be sitting on back-to-backs. 40-year-old Al Horford is unlikely to play a single back-to-back; 36-year-old Draymond Green will get frequent rest and so will Kristaps Porzingis, whenever he returns from his mysterious illness.

Kerr has had a tendency to punt the second half of a back-to-back entirely, resting multiple veterans at once. Perhaps he feels like the Warriors' odds of winning drop precipitously with Curry out, so he should maximize the games the baby-faced assassin does play and wave the white flag on others. Green has been far more likely to get ejected during his career when Curry isn't playing.

Even when Butler and Moses Moody return from their knee injuries, they're likely to sit out back-to-backs as well — and the Warriors are playing 15 of them. That means if you really want to see Curry next year, or even Green or Horford, make sure the Warriors have the previous night off before you buy a ticket.
