James Wiseman is staying with the New York Knicks.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Knicks have decided to keep Wiseman over Bruce Brown, as the reigning NBA champions finalize their roster for the 2026-27 season.

“The New York Knicks are waiving Bruce Brown, sources tell ESPN. James Wiseman is set to make the Knicks ‘ regular-season roster as a reserve center,” Charania shared on X.

New York appears to have been impressed enough with what Wiseman showed them in the offseason, particularly in the team’s preseason games. His best performance in five preseason games with the Knicks came in New York’s 148-98 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, as he led his team in points and rebounds with 18 and 10, respectively.

Selected second overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 2020 NBA Draft, former Memphis Tigers star Wiseman hasn’t quite reached his potential in the league yet.

Still just 25 years old, Wiseman, who spent the previous two seasons with the Indiana Pacers, will have a fresh start with a team expected to be among the top contenders for an NBA title. Minutes could be hard to come by for him, with veterans Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond ahead of Wiseman on the depth chart, but it’s not a stretch to believe he could eventually become Towns’ chief backup.
