There were no sour grapes for Bryce Underwood on Saturday.
Michigan played Penn State at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. Underwood once again drew the start at quarterback for the Wolverines but was benched at halftime after throwing two interceptions.
Backup quarterback Tommy Carr, the grandson of ex-Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, took over under center for Michigan in the second half with Penn State leading 3-0. He proceeded to fuel a comeback by going 5-of-7 for 47 yards and also adding 36 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
After Carr’s touchdown on the ground, Underwood pulled a very classy move. The CBS broadcast showed a hyped-up Underwood running in from the sideline to celebrate with Carr. Here is the video.

Carr’s strong performance in relief helped lead Michigan to a 21-18 victory over Penn State. The Wolverines now sit at 4-2 on the season (after entering play on Saturday having lost two straight games).
The sophomore Underwood has not been the answer for the Wolverines this season, tossing six interceptions to just five touchdowns (and also experiencing some painful moments on the field). But if Michigan ends up giving Carr the full-time starting QB job, it looks like he will have the full support of Underwood.
