All is seemingly well for Bryce Underwood despite his benching. The Michigan Wolverines sophomore quarterback did not let the team’s decision to sit him in favor of freshman Tommy Carr at halftime affect him, as he maintained a positive attitude.
“The conversation was handled by Jason Beck, who’s the QB coach and coordinator. Bryce couldn’t have handled it any better,” Whittingham said after the game, via
Clayton Sayfie of TheWolverine.com. “He was supporting Tommy and helping him between series. I love Bryce Underwood. He’s a competitor, got a lot of want-to and has a great personality.”
The Wolverines were in need of a spark after failing to score in the first half of the game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. Their defense held up, allowing just three points to the Nittany Lions over that stretch, but Underwood squandered some possessions, including on drives that ended in interceptions.
The decision to go with Carr worked, as the grandson of legendary Michigan coach Lloyd Carr led the Wolverines to three touchdown drives in a 21-18 victory.
It remains to be seen whether Michigan will start Carr and bench Underwood going forward, but the Wolverines will soon answer that question when they host the Indiana Hoosiers on Oct. 24.
