The Indianapolis Colts made a major change Monday morning with the firing of general manager Chris Ballard.
Ballard had been with the organization since the 2017 season but was ultimately let go after a 2-4 start this season. With the firing of Ballard, Indianapolis will now be searching for a new GM and a report from Dan Patrick has given a bit of insight on one particular name in the search.
Patrick spoke Monday morning and revealed that according to his sources, the first phone call Indianapolis made after the firing of Ballard was to its former quarterback Peyton Manning.
Manning, who spent the first 13 seasons of his career with the Colts, is a beloved member of the franchise and still highly regarded in Indianapolis. According to Patrick's sources, the call to Manning did not only seek his advice but also gauged his interest in the GM opening as well as partial ownership.
"The call did not only get names and suggestions but will also explore whether or not Peyton is interested in being a general manager for the Colts as an entry point that would include ownership interest."

With a 17-year career in the NFL and a post-playing career that's included time in TV and broadcasting, Manning has all the experience in the world to come in and be an excellent general manager.
Manning has enough relationships around the league to seek out advice for some things he doesn't understand, something that could be of great benefit. It is obviously still extremely early in the GM search for the Colts, but it's not hard to believe that Manning is among the top two or three favorites for the job.
It will be interesting to see just how interested Manning is in the opening.
