Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have shared the booth for 25 years at Fox and ESPN. It's becoming increasingly clear they probably won't be together after the 2026 NFL season.
A report recently revealed the "Monday Night Football" announcers had an argument before a Week 5 game between the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills at SoFi Stadium in L.A. On Wednesday evening, Puck's Dylan Byers dropped a bombshell report that detailed the incident and the rift between the longtime partners.
Byers reported Buck and Aikman's relationship had been souring before their recent contract situation. In September, Buck signed a six-year, $108M contract extension with the worldwide leader in sports. Aikman, meanwhile, hasn't signed one and seems poised to be a broadcasting free agent this offseason. Those exacerbated the issues in their relationship, which has recently soured.
One source described the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback as "becoming increasingly cold, short [and] difficult" with Buck. After weeks of tension, Buck finally snapped at Aikman. Afterward, things escalated.
The source told Byers: "[Buck] basically said, 'Dude, are we really going to do this?' And Troy's position was: You [expletive] me over."

Aikman's feelings stem from Buck and his agent beginning contract talks in May without him. Byers reported that during those discussions, ESPN told them it might move on from Aikman, whom Buck has said he "loves like a brother." He still accepted the deal.
Per Byers, Buck, ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro and CAA (talent agency) didn't inform Aikman of the contract, leaving him feeling "double-crossed."
Aikman and Buck called a Week 6 "MNF" game between the Washington Commanders and the San Francisco 49ers and seemed to have no issues. NFL chief media officer Hans Schroeder told Front Office Sports' Mark Maske Wednesday that he has "no concern" about them.
Aikman and Buck will likely remain cordial on-air to avoid generating more headlines. Off-air, however, things will be much more frigid in what could be one of the most shocking sports media divorces.
