Brutal injury report gives Eagles few good options heading into pivotal 'MNF' Cowboys showdown

Anyone free Monday night? The Philadelphia Eagles may have a job for you.

On Saturday, the team shared an extensive injury report ahead of Week 7's pivotal "Monday Night Football" showdown with the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys (2-4). In total, 25 players were listed on the report, including 11 designated as either questionable (seven) or out (four).

Wide receivers DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle)  will be among those not in uniform Monday evening, alongside cornerback Michael Carter II (abdomen) and linebacker Nolan Smith (concussion).

While three-time Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley (hamstring) was described as a full participant, he also received a questionable tag, leaving open the possibility he'll miss a third consecutive game.

The absurdly long list isn't even the worst of Philadelphia's injury woes.

On Monday, quarterback Jalen Hurts (blood clots) was ruled out for the season. He was initially ruled out of last Saturday's 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers with a superficial blood clot, thrusting third-year quarterback Tanner McKee, who previously started two Week 18 games, into the QB1 role. The 2023 sixth-round pick (No. 188 overall) completed 57.8 percent of his passes for 215 yards (4.8 yards per attempt) and a touchdown.

Smith and Wicks were his leading wide receivers, combining for 99 yards, including 75 yards and a touchdown from Smith on 14 targets. Their absences will put rookie first-rounder (No. 20 overall) Makai Lemon and 2025 undrafted free agent Darius Cooper in prominent roles, giving Philly a chance to see what each can do as it braces for a potential rebuild.

Cooper has been one of the few bright spots on an offense that ranks No. 28 in scoring, entering Week 7 with eight receptions, 139 yards and four touchdowns. Lemon, meanwhile, has disappointed after being considered arguably the best receiver in the 2026 class. Per Sumer Sports data, he ranks 84th among 87 wideouts who've run at least 100 routes in yards per route run (0.64), gaining 127 yards on 18 receptions (7.1 yards per reception).

Veteran Hollywood Brown, playing on a one-year minimum contract, has only been active in one game while playing 17 snaps but could be moved into a larger role out of necessity. With a big game, he might become attractive to contenders ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

The 2026 season is quickly becoming a lost cause for the Eagles (2-4), who have lost four in a row. Yet as bleak as things are, in a division where no team has won a game in two weeks, Philadelphia is still in contention for an NFC East title.

The first-place New York Giants (3-2-1) are 10-point underdogs in Week 7 on the road against the Houston Texans (2-4) in quarterback J.J. McCarthy's first start, possibly giving the Eagles a chance to pull closer in the standings by the time the Cowboys come to town. And with New York and Philadelphia scheduled for Week 8, things could look a lot different in a hurry.

Those chances are slim, however, with a solid portion of the Eagles roster on the injury report and several key contributors already ruled out or likely to be less than 100 percent. To win on Monday, Philadelphia is going to need all the help it can get.
