Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid reportedly told Josh Simmons to leave team meeting after tense exchange

Emotions ran high in a Wednesday team meeting between Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, left tackle Josh Simmons and head coach Andy Reid.

What happened in Wednesday's team meeting?

Ahead of Kansas City's "Sunday Night Football" matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, ESPN/NFL Media insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported that Simmons, who's been battling a back issue, sat with his feet up during a session in the offense's meeting room. Reid then told him to put his feet down, but the offensive lineman told him he had to sit that way because his back and hips were "aching."

Reid told him to get treatment before they argued further. The exchange disrupted the meeting until Mahomes stepped in and echoed Reid's message, advising him to get treatment. The offensive tackle left the room but remained in the building. He later apologized to the coach and team leadership.

On Thursday, the Chiefs placed Simmons on injured reserve because of a bulging disc in his back. He will miss at least four games. He can return as early as Nov. 22 against the Arizona Cardinals.

When the Chiefs initially announced Simmons missed practice on Wednesday, they said it related to his back and personal reasons. On Thursday, Kansas City vice president of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder said he used the personal time to discuss the rehab process with his family.

Clearly, this ordeal has frustrated Simmons, who has been sidelined since August. The former Ohio State Buckeye has played in just eight of the possible 22 games since the Chiefs took him. During his rookie season, he missed Weeks 6-9 because of a personal matter relating to his family. When he returned against the Dallas Cowboys, he suffered a dislocated and fractured wrist, missing the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.

Undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson has been filling in for Simmons this season. Pro Football Focus has given him a decent 65.6 grade in his first five games.
