Jets' Aaron Glenn era may have hit rock bottom with loss to Dolphins

The Aaron Glenn era for the New York Jets was already off to a bad start with just five wins in his first 23 games.

It somehow managed to get worse on Sunday with what might have been their worst-showing yet in a 28-25 loss to the previously winless Miami Dolphins.

The Aaron Glenn era keeps getting worse for Jets

The final score may not have been as bad as some other losses.

It may not have been the worst overall performance.

But when you take into account the opponent, the situation and everything else that went into this result, it's simply a shocking result that could start the wheels turning for yet another coaching change.

How could it not?

Not only were the Jets at home, but they were playing an 0-5 team that is without its best offensive playmaker in running back De'Von Achane. If there were ever a game on the schedule that the Jets should have won ... this was it.

And they couldn't even do that.

They allowed Miami to march right down the field and score an opening drive touchdown, giving the Dolphins their first lead of the season.

They allowed a Miami offense that was averaging a league-worst 14 points per game to score 28 points.

They allowed Malik Willis, a quarterback with twice as many interceptions as touchdown passes over the first five weeks, to throw two scores, not turn the ball over and throw for 208 yards on 14-of-21 passing.

Even worse, it is the 23rd game out of Glenn's 24-game tenure that his defense did not intercept a pass.

All of this resulted in Dolphins fans taking over MetLife Stadium with a "Let's Go Dolphins" chant in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

Glenn said after the game that while he understands the fan frustration over the lack of results, he still sees a team that is moving in the right direction, but it is awfully difficult to see any evidence for that.

There is some solid young talent on the roster, and they have a boatload of first-round picks in the coming seasons, but a 5-19 record and a loss to an 0-5 team at home is just an unacceptable set of results. When does it become enough?

More importantly, would it even matter?

Glenn is the Jets fifth different head coach since 2015 (including interim coaches) with zero playoff appearances and zero winning seasons to show for it. At some point, the problem becomes bigger than just the head coach. It is almost certainly the one common denominator throughout all of the changes, and the common denominator is the person sitting in the owner's box making the biggest decisions.
