Ole Miss' Kewan Lacy out against Auburn with dislocated shoulder

The Ole Miss Rebels are treading in deep waters right now after a Week 9 loss to the Texas Longhorns.

They're now 5-2 and ranked No. 12 in the country, but they're in a spot where just one more loss could knock them out of the College Football Playoff conversation.

Up next is a game against the upset-minded Auburn Tigers, who beat the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs earlier this season, so this is a matchup that won't be easy for Ole Miss.

Making matters worse for the Rebels is the fact that star running back Kewan Lacy has already been ruled out of the game with a shoulder injury he suffered in the loss to the Longhorns.

It's a dislocated shoulder that's going to keep Lacy out in this one.

“Obviously, he’s not going to play this week,” head coach Pete Golding said on Monday. "We’ll evaluate that going forward…. he’s still getting some MRIs… It’s a different injury than he had before.”

Lacy has been bitten by the injury bug this season, and in fact, his issues date back to the College Football Playoff game against Tulane last December. He hurt his left shoulder in that win, and it was a bad enough injury to require offseason surgery when Ole Miss was knocked out of the CFP.

Earlier this season, Lacy struggled with a lower leg injury and then he hurt his shoulder in Ole Miss' signature win against Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss earlier this season. That was an AC joint separation.

This is a separate injury, but it's the same shoulder.

As such, it has been a disappointing season for Lacy, though he has still rushed for 388 yards and five touchdowns this season.

Still, that production pales in comparison to his 2025 season, which earned him All-America honors after he rushed for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Without Lacy, the Rebels will lean on junior Makhi Frazier and freshman Shekai Mills-Knight in the backfield.
