The 2026 season has not gone the way the Oregon Ducks had planned it would.
The preseason No. 2 team in the country suffered a shocking Week 2 loss that it could never quite recover from. On top of that, Oregon lost its star quarterback Dante Moore on Sept. 26 due to injury, and he's been unable to return ever since.
There was originally hope that Moore may be able to get back on the field at some point this season, but that now looks very unlikely after head coach Dan Lanning spoke Monday night.
According to Lanning, Moore will likely not return to the field at any point this season. Lanning said that while Moore has been able to practice in a limited capacity, he still does not have clearance from doctors to make a return to game situations.
Moore made headlines in the offseason when he decided to forego the NFL Draft and return to Oregon for another season despite being a projected top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Moore does have another year of eligibility remaining, so there is a chance that he could return to Oregon in 2027. That would give him a chance to do what he intended to do this season, which is to further improve his draft stock.
He was doing an excellent job of that before his injury, as he'd thrown for 926 with nine touchdowns, no interceptions and a 69.7% completion percentage prior to his injury.
Moore has plenty of time before he needs to make a decision. If he does decide to return to Oregon, the Ducks will likely be right back atop the preseason rankings in 2027 when they are revealed.
