'MNF' takeaways: Cowboys breathe life into season; Eagles reach selling point

The Dallas Cowboys notched a key 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, improving to 3-4 and climbing withing 1 1/2 games of the NFC East lead.

We break it down below with our rapid reaction to the Week 7 finale.

Key takeaway: The Eagles need to start dealing

It's time. At 2-5 and losers of five straight, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman needs to start dialing up his peers and offloading talent to prepare for a rebuild.

Running back Saquon Barkley, who was limited to seven carries (which he turned into 62 yards and a touchdown) due to a back injury, would be attractive on the trade market if healthy. With a pair of divisional games over the next two weeks before the Nov. 10 deadline, it will be interesting to see how the Eagles manage Barkley and whether they sit him to preserve his trade value.

Corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are young enough to be part of the Philly's next playoff contender, but as two of the team's most valuable assets, either could net considerable draft capital. Linebacker Zack Baun, 30, could also be an intriguing add for a playoff contender.

The Eagles have plenty of good players who can make a difference in the right environment. But that won't be in Philadelphia this season. It's best for Eagles management to say goodbye to this era and get ready for the next.

Game MVP: Cowboys running back Javonte Williams

The sixth-year running back revived his career in Dallas last season when rushing for a career-high 1,201 yards but had a rough start to 2026, entering "MNF" averaging 52.8 yards per game and 3.7 yards per carry through six games. But against the Eagles, Williams rushed for a career-high 155 yards on 25 carries while adding a late touchdown to add an exclamation point to the 17-point victory.

With so much money tied to quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, the Cowboys will often go as far as their passing game takes them. But getting this kind of production from Williams, if for no other reason than to keep the Cowboys defense off the field, is a massive win for Dallas.

Quote of the game: "Momentum's real."

Following the game, Prescott spoke with ESPN's Laura Rutledge on the field and discussed what a win like Monday's can mean for the Cowboys going forward.

"Momentum's real," the 11-year veteran said. "Division win, on the road. Now we get to go home... We've got to stack some wins and get this thing rolling."

Dallas hasn't won consecutive games since November 2025, but with upcoming games against the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) and at the Indianapolis Colts (2-5), it might soon find itself on a roll. In a winnable division (we're still not ready to trust the New York Giants), Monday may have been exactly what the Cowboys needed to kickstart their season.
