Trey McBride, others take spotlight in Week 7 for National Tight Ends Day

National Tight Ends Day once again lived up to its reputation as one of the NFL's most entertaining unofficial holidays on Sunday, Oct. 25, as tight ends across the league turned in some of Week 7's most productive performances.

What is National Tight Ends Day?

Few positions demand more versatility than tight end, which is why the NFL dedicates the fourth Sunday of October to celebrating the players who excel at both blocking and catching passes. National Tight Ends Day serves as the NFL's annual reminder that the league's most complete offensive weapons often line up at tight end.

“Being a tight end means being (in) the best position in the whole NFL. You get to block, run, catch. It means a lot to me," Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth said, via Pro Football HOF. "I get to be a tight end every single day, especially on my (Oct. 25) birthday.”

“With Tight End University every summer, we have gotten to know each other, and I respect all those guys so much,” Cardinals tight end Trey McBride told the Hall of Fame. “We have all worked out together and learned from each other. It makes us better, and that is what we are trying to do – to grow and elevate the tight end position. So to have a day dedicated to tight ends is really cool. I am excited to be a part of it.”

Tight ends take center stage for touchdown parade this season

The annual celebration, created by San Francisco 49ers star George Kittle and embraced league-wide since 2018, featured touchdowns, highlight catches and game-changing plays from some of football's biggest mismatch creators.

Arizona Cardinals standout McBride delivered one of the day's best performances, hauling in 10 receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown against the Denver Broncos. Giving him one of the top statistical performances among all tight ends on the holiday.

New York Jets rookie Mason Taylor emerged as the breakout star of the day. Taylor caught five passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns, further establishing himself as a rising weapon in New York's offense.

Greg Dulcich had a five-reception, 86-yard receiving day in the Miami Dolphins' win against the New York Jets. Kittle, the man most associated with the holiday, also made his presence felt. Despite San Francisco's loss to Atlanta, the veteran recorded eight catches for 88 yards to lead all 49ers receivers.

Kyle Pitts Sr. caught 5 passes for 22 yards and a 5-yard touchdown against the 49ers to join in on the touchdown parade.

Around the league, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington celebrated with a touchdown catch in a 16-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Paris, Darren Waller of the Carolina Panthers scored a 50-yard touchdown for the Carolina Panthers.

While Los Angeles Rams tight end Davis Allen found the end zone twice on a three-yard touchdown reception and a six-yard reception from Matthew Stafford.

"Tight ends helped compile 110 total touchdowns through seven weeks in the regular season," via Fox Sports, "The most scores in NFL history."

Elsewhere in the late afternoon window, Green Bay's Tucker Kraft added four receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown, while Las Vegas Raiders star Brock Bowers contributed six catches for 73 yards.
