Oregon announces brutal update on Dante Moore

Dante Moore’s college football career may be coming to an unceremonious end.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning announced Monday that Moore is not expected to take the field for the rest of the 2026 season due to injury. The Ducks quarterback sustained a concussion during a Sept. 26 game against USC, which has kept him on the sidelines for Oregon’s last three games.

“If it was up to Dante in any shape, way, he would be out there playing for the guys,” Lanning told reporters, via ESPN’s Paulo Uggetti.

“This isn’t a selfish decision on Dante’s part, saying, ‘I don’t want to come back, the season doesn’t look the way I want it to look.’ That’s not at all what this is.”

Lanning stated that Moore has yet to be medically cleared to return and called the decision one that was “out of their territory” with the 21-year-old’s safety in mind. The veteran coach added that the issue was something Moore would “100% be able to recover from.”

Moore took a massive blow to the head on a late hit by USC linebacker Desman Stephens II. Moore’s head then bounced violently off the ground at L.A. Memorial Coliseum, rendering him unable to stand as a fight broke out between players on the field.

Moore returned to Oregon for his senior year despite legitimate NFL draft interest following his breakout campaign as a full-time starter. He threw for 3,565 yards and 30 touchdowns across 15 games last season.

In four games before his injury, Moore tallied 926 passing yards and 9 touchdowns without throwing a single interception.
