Hornets to retire Muggsy Bogues' jersey, honoring NBA's shortest player

A long overdue honor for one of the greatest players in Charlotte Hornets history is set to take place later this season.

Hornets will retire the jersey of Muggsy Bogues

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Charlotte will be retiring the No. 1 jersey of franchise icon Muggsy Bogues on Feb. 11. Bogues is known for being the shortest player in NBA history at 5-foot-3.

Bogues spent 14 seasons in the NBA, 10 of which were spent with the Hornets. During his 10 seasons, Bogues became the all-time franchise leader in assists, steals and minutes played.

He was a beloved member of some of the best teams in franchise history, and the jersey retirement will be a special event for Bogues and some of his former teammates that will be in attendance.

Muggsy Bogues becomes the second Hornets player in two seasons to have a jersey retired

Just last season, Charlotte retired the No. 30 of Dell Curry. Much like Bogues, Curry spent 10 seasons of his career with the Hornets.

The duo of Bogues and Curry both arrived in Charlotte ahead of the 1988-89 season and remained there until the 1997-98 season when Bogues was traded and Curry left as a free agent at the conclusion of the season.

Each of them is a beloved member of the organization and to have No. 30 and No. 1 hanging in the rafters next to each other at the Spectrum Center is long overdue.
