It was a major SEC recruiting battle for three-star cornerback Preston Glasco from Loganville, Georgia.
Ultimately, though, it was an SEC recruiting battle that Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers won.
Glasco came down to the Vols, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
A former UConn commitment, Georgia offered Glasco in June, and that really opened things up in his recruitment. He took an official visit to UGA. The Tide then jumped in and offered the cornerback in early September, which led to a decommitment from the Huskies.
Finally came the offer from Tennessee in late September, and after an official visit to Alabama and an unofficial visit to Knoxville to see the Vols beat the Tide, Glasco was ready to make a decision.
It was a close three-team race, but the three-star feels he can quickly make the biggest impact while at Rocky Top.
“I don’t know if there were three or four things that really set Tennessee apart, as it was an extremely tough decision,” Glasco told Rivals. “They made a really big push down the stretch. I believe I can make a bigger impact earlier at Tennessee. Those things were factors.”
Glasco will take an official visit to Tennessee in November, but it was that unofficial game-day experience at Neyland Stadium that really won him over.
“It was a big impact, honestly, not just because they were playing Bama, but just getting in the atmosphere itself was very important to me,” Glasco said. “When you were there, you could tell the defense feeds off the fans, and the fans always bring the energy.”
Glasco is a tall, lanky corner at nearly 6-foot-3 who has plenty of tools and upside for a three-star recruit. According to 247Sports, he's the No. 69 cornerback in the class of 2027.
"Tall developmental cornerback with a higher ceiling given the tools," is the scouting report on the three-star, per Andrew Irvins of 247Sports.
Getting that type of player and beating out Alabama and UGA in the process is a big deal for Tennessee.
