Dream sell out Game 6 of WNBA Finals despite scheduling issue

Many in Atlanta must have planned a "sick day" from work on Thursday.

The Atlanta Dream host the Golden State Valkyries in Game 6 of the best-of-seven WNBA Finals on Thursday at State Farm Arena at 12:30 p.m. ET on Peacock, E!, SYFY and USA Network. The game isn't being held in prime time because the NBA's Atlanta Hawks host the Cleveland Cavaliers at the same venue at 8 p.m. ET on NBA TV the same day.

The Dream's ownership group released a statement Tuesday saying it warned the WNBA "two months ago" about scheduling conflicts after it finalized playoff dates and times. Despite the league's lack of preparation, Atlanta fans are set to show up in droves and cheer on the squad.

Dream announce sellout before Game 6

The Dream announced Wednesday that they've sold out the 17,044-capacity arena for Game 6 and thanked their fans.

On Tuesday, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and rapper Flavor Flav drummed up support for the Dream, who are aiming to win their first championship. Flavor Flav, a huge fan of women's sports, called Game 6 a "paid holiday" and shared a mock excuse letter on social media.

Dickens, meanwhile, released a statement asking Atlanta employers and educators to extend a "little grace" to those attending Game 6 or watching it on an electronic device. Dream forward Angel Reese shared his message on her Instagram Story.

No matter how fans found a way to attend, the Dream — who trail 3-2 — will greatly appreciate it. They need an electric home atmosphere to extend the series to a Game 7 (scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. ET at Chase Center in San Francisco).

The Dream lost Game 5 in San Francisco 64-55, but DraftKings Sportsbook lists them as a 4.5-point favorite for Game 6. With an extremely loyal crowd backing it, Atlanta may prevail.
