Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes reacts to report leaking that he, Andy Reid told Josh Simmons to leave team meeting

A recent report revealed that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid told Josh Simmons to leave a team meeting last week after Simmons and Reid got into an argument regarding how the left tackle was sitting.

Simmons allegedly said that he had to sit "with his feet up" because his back and hips were "aching." Reid reacted by telling the player to leave for treatment, and Mahomes eventually echoed Reid's words. Later, Simmons apologized to the coach and team leadership.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Mahomes was asked how he felt that the Simmons-related matter was leaked to media members.

Patrick Mahomes: Chiefs sometimes need to "have hard conversations"

"Stuff like that doesn’t really bother me because I’m so in the moment, in the team," Mahomes explained, per Nick Roesch of Heavy. "When you’re in this building, you don’t even really hear stuff like that. We’ve had the right conversations. Now we’re moving in the right direction. You have to have hard conversations at some point. I think we’ve had those. We’ve had great conversations after, and I think we’re moving in the right direction that will be great for the team."

Simmons will miss at least three more games after he was placed on injured reserve last week because of a bulging disc in his back. Without having Simmons available, Kansas City suffered a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks that dropped the Chiefs to 5-1 this past Sunday night.

Chiefs' "culture" will help prevent certain things from becoming a distraction

More recently, the Chiefs generated headlines when it was learned on Wednesday that they would be signing five-time All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad. Tucker has not kicked in a game since he served a 10-game suspension last year for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy following accusations of sexual misconduct made by 16 massage therapists.

Such stories could cause unwanted distractions for a team, but Mahomes seemingly isn't worried that will be the case with the Chiefs.

"I feel like we’ve built this culture of coming together as a family and doing whatever we can to make sure that, not only the player, but the person is going in the right direction," Mahomes added. "You can have those hard conversations, and then you can have the good conversations that come after that. It’s not always great in life, in general. You have to be able to have tough conversations so you can have better conversations going forward. I think that’s something we’ve built here."

Mahomes and the Chiefs will next play the rival Denver Broncos (5-2) this coming Sunday. As of Wednesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Chiefs as 1.5-point road favorites for that matchup.
