Maxx Crosby's connection to Michigan has always made him an intriguing name for Detroit Lions fans. The Las Vegas Raiders defensive end is from the Great Lakes State, and that hometown connection has helped keep speculation alive about whether he could eventually make his way to the Lions.
There's something appealing about the idea of a Michigan native continuing his NFL career close to home, especially with Detroit being a natural landing spot for a player like Crosby. It's the kind of possibility that keeps coming up whenever talk turns to his future. While many think he'll be with the Raiders through the NFL's Nov. 10 trade deadline, the thought of Crosby eventually putting on a Lions uniform has been hard for fans to ignore.
In a feature out this week, Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports links the Eastern Michigan product to the Lions. Sure, general manager Brad Holmes isn't known for these kinds of expensive, flashy trades, but a fan can dream, right?
So, what makes the Lions a possible fit? He mentions that it's the team Crosby "grew up rooting for."
"The Lions are actually tied for the league lead in sacks this season with 21, but the defense still ranks dead last with 391.0 yards allowed per game," he adds.
"I think it's possible Kelvin Sheppard's unit is on the upswing," he continues. "Not only did they hold Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers to 17 points on Sunday, but Brian Branch is back in the lineup, and Kerby Joseph could be back soon as well. Imagine if the Lions added Crosby to rush the passer opposite of Aidan Hutchinson? Maybe this is more wishful thinking, but the Lions could become the new favorite in the NFC North if they made this deal."
So, yes, perhaps it is wishful thinking, and Crosby has been linked to other NFL teams. But it's something worth at least thinking about as the trade deadline looms.
