Reese Alston the crown jewel of the elite LSU 2027 recruiting class

Will Wade and the LSU Tigers have picked up a major class of 2027 commitment.

That commitment comes from 5-star point guard Reese Alston from Houston, Texas.

Alston, ranked as the No. 3 point guard in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite, committed to LSU over Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee and Wichita State.

He's the son of longtime NBA veteran and streetball legend Rafer Alston, who was better known as "Skip to My Lou."

"On my visit, it just felt like home," Alston told ESPN regarding why he chose the Tigers. "The environment and the culture were amazing. I could feel the friendliness of everyone and their passion for the basketball program. I watched film on my visit from when they were on top of the SEC with Coach Wade, and the place was packed. The environment was loud."

Wade was instrumental in getting Alston to commit to the Tigers. The LSU coach has made waves this offseason for his unconventional team-building strategies, but Alston thinks the coach's fiery personality is a bit overblown.

"Off the court, he's a nice guy and very relatable, but during practice, you can see the intensity. My mom was taken aback at first, but she understands," Alston said. "Coach Wade knows what it takes to win. He's put his full trust in me, and I've put my trust in him. I trusted as a coach and a person.

"The internet makes Coach Wade out to be somebody he's not. ... He has kept his word and showed up to all the games that he said he would. He's made me a priority."

Will Wade has built an elite 2027 recruiting class

Wade is doing a great job of recruiting in the 2027 cycle. Alston is LSU's third 2027 commitment in a class that is ranked No. 1 nationally.

The younger Alston, known as "Lil Skip," is the crown jewel of this class.

Last season, Alston was named the best boys' high school basketball player in the greater Houston area. He helped lead his team to a second-straight state championship by averaging 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.

He's not alone in this class, though.

He'll be joined by 5-star combo guard King Gibson, ranked No. 3 overall at his position. Gibson checks in at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds and averaged 15 points, 3.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game for SPIRE Academy on one of the top high school teams in the country.

Wade and LSU are also bringing in power forward Ahmad Hudson, who is an elite dual-sport recruit committed to both Wade and head football coach Lane Kiffin.

Hudson is the top tight end recruit in the 2027 class but he's also one heck of a power forward prospect. This is a kid who could play NFL ball, but he averages nearly 20 points per game and over 13 rebounds per game on the hardwood.

Hudson was the Gatorade Louisiana Boys Basketball Player of the Year and yet, he'll play second fiddle in this recruiting class to Alston and perhaps even Gibson.

That's the type of elite recruiting class that Wade has put together for the Tigers.
