Saquon Barkley, Moro Ojomo reportedly won't be part of Eagles' fire sale ahead of trade deadline

Even before the Philadelphia Eagles' season went from bad to disastrous, some suggested that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman trading offensive lineman Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens was a sign that Roseman was ready to embrace a sell-off ahead of the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline.

Brooks Kubena and Daniel Popper of The Athletic are among those who have mentioned that the Eagles could acquire future draft assets for running back Saquon Barkley and/or defensive tackle Moro Ojomo. For a piece published on Friday, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated addressed the uncertain futures of those two players.

Why Saquon Barkley is probably staying put this fall

According to Breer, "a Saquon Barkley trade seems less likely, especially with Barkley banged up." Barkley hadn't played since Week 4 because of a hamstring injury before he hurt his back in the Eagles' loss to the rival Dallas Cowboys this past Monday night, and it seems like he could miss future games due to one or both of those setbacks.

That said, Kubena and Popper noted that the Eagles could potentially get a third-round draft pick "plus a late Day 3 sweetener" for Barkley's services. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman could see such a move as a wise business decision, especially if he's considering making wholesale changes after quarterback Jalen Hurts was lost for the season (blood clots).

While Barkley is signed through 2028, Ojomo is in a contract year.

"[The Eagles possibly trading Ojomo] makes sense," Breer explained, "given that the team has already paid Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis at his position. Still, the team has told others that Ojomo is not available, and has at least given off the vibe that it’ll try to re-sign him, despite having Carter and Davis already on big deals."

Kubena and Popper think the Eagles could get a second-round pick and a fifth-round selection if Roseman changes his mind about Ojomo's future.

Who could the Eagles trade before Nov. 10?

Breer mentioned that contract-year players such as wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, cornerback Tariq Woolen and tight end Dallas Goedert "could be had" if the 2-5 Eagles lose at the 1-4-1 Washington Commanders this coming Sunday night. As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Philadelphia as a six-point road underdog for that game.
