As Kaden Honeycutt talked to Fox Sports' Kaitlyn Vincie following Friday's Black's Tire 200 at Martinsville Speedway, Chandler Smith's truck was being dragged back to the garage area by a tow truck.
It was thanks to Smith's winning effort at "The Paperclip" that Honeycutt retained the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points lead going into Nov. 6, as Layne Riggs, who dominated the race and would've taken a one-point lead with the win, instead finished third.
Honeycutt looked to be in line for a top-10 finish at the very least before contact with Tristan McKee on the race's final run shuffled him out of line. He finished 14th and was fortunate to not have wrecked in the closing laps.
Honeycutt and McKee had a short but cordial exchange on pit road after the race.
"I had nothing against him," Honeycutt explained on the FS1 broadcast. "I just wanted to ask him if the 88 hit him."
Ty Majeski did not hit McKee and force him into Honeycutt, though a replay shows McKee trying to give Majeski room before the former hit Honeycutt. McKee, 16, won the pole for Friday's race, becoming the youngest polesitter in series history.
"When I looked in my mirror and I saw [McKee] was sideways, I didn't know if he got free in or run over," Honeycutt said. "I just wanted to see what he said... I didn't get the call three-wide until it was too late. Sucky deal, but I got bailed out there, especially with Chandler winning that race. I'm really surprised he went and did that.
"Twenty points, but definitely not comfortable in the slightest bit. Gotta go win Homestead next week. Just focus on winning, I think that's all we can do. Just struggled today... I got all the confidence going to Homestead. [Crew chief Scott Zipadelli] loves Homestead. This team loves Homestead... We're not done yet, we got one more to go."
