The Los Angeles Lakers made a move Thursday that will raise speculation about Bronny James’ future with the organization.
James was one of two players assigned to the Coachella Valley Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate. Their season is set to begin on Friday.

Starting the season in the G League does not exactly bode well for James’ career prospects. While he is still just 22, this is his third NBA season, and he does not appear close to cracking the Lakers’ rotation. Even if he has shown some progress during the offseason, it is discouraging that the Lakers do not think enough of him to keep him on their active roster right now.
James did get to play in five games so far this season. However, he averaged just 2.4 minutes per game in them, with his highest total being the seven minutes he played in the season opener.
There had been some talk that the Lakers might be able to get an asset for James. With his contract not guaranteed beyond this season, perhaps that may still happen.
