Draymond Green has addressed his latest on-court run-in with Dillon Brooks.
The Golden State Warriors veteran was ejected from Monday’s game against the Phoenix Suns following a heated face-off with Brooks. Green received one technical foul for shoving Suns center Khaman Maluach, then another for grabbing Brooks by the neck.
Brooks defended Maluach after the latter got knocked to the ground by Green. But Draymond felt the Suns swingman added tension to the situation rather than play the role of peacemaker.
Following the Warriors’ 120-100 win over the Heat on Thursday, Green addressed his ejection and pinned some of the blame on Brooks.
“Yeah, he was talking. He came in talking. Putting his chest on my shoulder,” Green said, via SF Chronicle’s Luca Evans.
“That ain’t how you de-escalate. So I just wish he stood on the type of business he was on, instead of running to y’all. Like, ‘I was trying to de-escalate!’ No you wasn’t, bro.” “I kinda had started to turn a corner on him of, ‘Ah, man, he may be who he say he is.’ But he not.”
If there’s anyone who understands the psyche of an instigator, it’s Green. The Warriors star wasn’t absolving himself of blame, but he just didn’t want Brooks to be let off the hook.
Brooks went from role player to 20-point scorer last season for the Suns. But he still hasn’t given up his usual antics from when he was more of an enforcer during his days with the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets.
True enough, Brooks got into a testy confrontation with mild-mannered Damian Lillard in the very next game.
