New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson missed the club's Week 8 win over the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 1 due to an illness.
On Friday morning, he released a statement regarding his status via social media.
"Recently, I experienced an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms that required hospitalization for several days," Henderson wrote, as shared by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "During that time, I underwent extensive medical testing and evaluation. While the results of my comprehensive medical testing have come back positive and reassuring, the cause of this remains unknown and unexplainable. I will continue working closely with specialists and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions. I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health. My health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priorities."
As Florio noted, Henderson's update would lead one to believe the 24-year-old won't be cleared for contact-football activities anytime soon. It's also unknown when or even if Henderson will want to return to the playing field, as his career is not nearly as important as is his overall health this fall.
"My wife and I are deeply grateful for family and loved ones, the New England Patriots organization, my agent, my medical team, teammates, and everyone who has offered prayers, encouragement, and support," Henderson's statement added. "We respectfully ask for continued prayers and privacy as we focus on my health and recovery."

As noted by ESPN stats, Rhamondre Stevenson heads into the weekend leading the Patriots with 96 carries and 367 rushing yards for the season. Over the club's first eight games, he tallied a pair of rushing touchdowns.
Earlier in the week, Mark Daniels of MassLive noted that the "Patriots are limited financially" and are unlikely to make a blockbuster acquisition before the NFL trade deadline arrives at 4:00 p.m. ET on Nov. 10. Presumably, that would indicate the Patriots won't be calling the Indianapolis Colts about star running back Jonathan Taylor.
Tony Pollard of the Tennessee Titans and Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens could be more affordable for the Patriots if they plan to pursue a trade for a ball-carrier.
