Former Maryland coach Mike Locksley found himself in the awkward spot of having to analyze his former team’s first Big Ten win of the season on Saturday.
The Terps upset Purdue 34-29 on Saturday to end a 13-game conference losing streak. Interim coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim was carried off the field in celebration, and then Big Ten Network’s game coverage immediately went to Locksley, who was fired by the Terps just over two weeks ago and immediately turned to television work.
If there was any bitterness on Locksley’s part, it didn’t show. The coach was thrilled to see his former team finally get a Big Ten win.

Locksley is still the man who recruited the players and hired the coaches. His tenure did not end the way he would have wanted it to, but given all the relationships he still has with the team, he obviously wanted to see them win.
Locksley went 39-54 as Maryland’s coach. Before Saturday, their previous Big Ten win was under his guidance at Wisconsin all the way back on Sept. 20, 2025.
