18 Year-Old Cowboy Dominating Pro Rodeo Standings

Arapaho, Okla. is home to 18-year-old rookie Wacey Schalla, who is currently leading the Resistol Rookie All-Around Cowboy standings by a lead of $39,823. Schalla has taken home $116,930, while #2 Cole Clemons of Lipan, Texas has won $77,107. 

Schalla has made quite the splash during the 2024 season so far. He took home all the bacon in Mount Pleasant, Texas, in both the bareback and bull riding, winning both events and the all-around. 

That's right--Schalla is an all around cowboy. He currently holds the #28 spot in the World Standings for the bareback riding event, and holds the number two spot in the rookie standings. 

Weston Timberman is currently leading the rookie standings for the bareback riding with nearly $94,000 in season earnings. Schalla is close behind with $51,747.

In the bull riding, it's truly a knife fight, and with the season rapidly approaching its end, every ride counts. Schalla currently sits number two, being just about $1,500 behind leader Cooper James who has recorded an impressive $114,500 won.

Schalla just cashed a five-figure paycheck in Lovington, New Mexico's Xtreme Bulls event to help his cause of qualifying for the 2024 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR) this December and bagging the coveted Resistol Rookie of the Year title. With every little bit helping, the $13,508 in Lovington was appreciated. 

In an interview with ProRodeo Sports News, Schalla said, "I didn't know exactly what I needed. I knew that the two riders before me stayed on, so I had to stay on and put up a solid number. I don't know what it is about the Xtreme events. I definitely wanted one of those X buckles for winning a Division 1 event. To stay on both rides and get that buckle means a lot."

Schalla currently sits in the #10 spot of the bull riding World Standings; with just 45 days remaining in the rodeo season, Schalla will need to remain laser focused and keep winning to ensure he punches his ticket to Las Vegas this December.
