It has been said that a goal without a plan is just a dream. Three years ago, Tricia Aldridge had a dream when she purchased Adios Pantalones as a weanling. She then put a plan in place and publicly issued her extreme goal of earning $300,000 in his futurity year.
Aldridge saw greatness in the stallion, by Tres Seis, and out of French Bar Belle (Frenchmans Guy) from the very beginning and has allowed the stallion to foster and keep his spirit. Aldridge sees the stallion’s antics as a positive attribute that makes him a winner. The duo is off to a phenomenal start toward turning her dream into reality. Over this past weekend, Aldridge competed at the Lone Star Shootout in Hamilton, Texas.
Running a 15.574-second run in round one of the futurity landed them in 7th place when the dust settled, and Aldridge knew they had to be quick in round two.
Adios came through the gate meaning business, running hard to the first barrel. The stallion laid on the brakes to turn the first barrel, almost sending Aldridge over his neck, but the team recovered and finished the run.
“I joke because I guess we did name him Adios Pantalones, and I almost lost my pantalones at the first barrel,” said Aldridge.
Their second round time, even with the wild first barrel, was 15.676, placing them sixth in the round. Combining the two round times to calculate the average, Aldridge won the futurity reserve championship and added over $15,000 to their lifetime earnings.
Chipping away at the ultimate goal and keeping their eye on the prize, in just 10 competition runs, the team has already won $93,548. With a full calendar year left to accomplish their goal, it is reasonable to win the additional $206,451.
It is worth noting that all the money Adios Pantalones has won so far has been at open futurities or small incentives. The stallion has yet to even compete at any of the major high-paying incentive races, such as Pink and Ruby Buckle.
There’s no slowing down for Aldridge, especially with their winning streak. This month is packed with futurities from the Golden Buckle Barrel Race in Waco, Texas, to the Kinder Cup in Louisiana in February.
Aldridge isn’t only busy hauling to futurities, she is also keeping Adios’ fan club caught up with all the action on their social media.
“Between my different pages, we get a ton of traffic. I get over 2 million views a month”, said Aldrdige, “I do a lot to keep the pages upfront and honest, bridging the gap between the professionals and the people trying to get into barrel racing.”
Aldridge keeps it real by answering taboo questions about the barrel industry, showing the highs and lows, the triumphs and losses.
The world loves it and can’t get enough of Adios. With followers from the United States to Mexico and Canada, all the way to Australia and Italy. The phenomenal stallion has already booked full for this season except for one breeding available in the Colorado Classic Stallion Auction, and it has already soared to nearly $7,000. Given that his regular stud fee is $1,500, the $7,000 bid is incredible.
This team is hot and making headway to continue shattering goals.
