The American Rope Horse Futurity Association was created in 2007 by Jay and Lindsay Wadhams to recognize the talented ropers who train and compete on young rope horses in the team roping industry.
Futurities are already widely popular in the barrel racing, cow-horse, reining, and cutting industry; therefore, it was about time for the team ropers to shine.
After discussing with well-known breeders, trainers, and owners in the rope horse industry, ARHFA was created with classes that showcased four-, five-, and six-year-old horses.
The ARHFA events are the only ones that have combined how the American Quarter Horse Association judges roping and the speed required in team roping during rodeos. For the futurity colt's score, two judges' scores are added to their "time score."
Riders must compete at two ARHFA events to be eligible for the 2023 World Championship World Show.
The rope horse breeding world has also taken off. Here's a glance at the 2023 ARHFA World Championship Futurity leading sires:
These events filled a much-needed void in the team roping industry. Their 2024 schedule has been officially released.
Entries for the AZ Sun Circuit open Jan. 5, with $35,000 added money pre-futurity and $35,000 added open futurity and non-pro; there's a lot of money up for grabs.
