Rylee George, a 22-year-old from Oakdale, Calif., swept two titles at the California Circuit Finals held at the Pauline Davis Pavillion in Red Bluff from Dec. 29-31. This marked the successful close of her rookie season in rodeo.
In the first round, George finished with a time of 2.1 seconds, earning herself $2,052. She tied for first in the second round with Hanna Hundsdorfer and Suzanne Williams, the No. 1 and 2 season leaders respectively, finishing with a time of 2.4 seconds and earning $1,539. In the third round, George narrowly missed the money with a time of 3.6 seconds. She finished with an aggregate time of 8.1 seconds on three head, earning her the Average title and $3,078, bringing her total winnings for the weekend to $6,670.
George also won the Rookie of the Year title in breakaway roping for the California Circuit.
She achieved all of this with the assistance of Deputy, a 20-year-old sorrel gelding known worldwide in rodeo circles for his impressive tie-down roping career with 26-time World Champion Trevor Brazile. Deputy is registered as Fantaz Popularresort by Popular Resortfigure out of Fanta Lena.
George is now set to represent California at the RAM NFR Open in Colorado Springs, Colorado, next July, where she will compete against the other 12 circuits for her chance at the National Circuit Championship title.
