From Jan. 3-6, the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla., hosted the World Champions Rodeo Alliance (WCRA) Stampede at the E. The event featured top athletes from the WCRA leaderboard in various events and concluded with the Triple Crown of Rodeo round, where the top eight competed for prestigious titles and substantial cash prizes.
In the bareback riding, Taylor Broussard of Esterwood, La., secured the first-place position with an impressive 86.5-point ride on Stevie Knicks, earning him a substantial $15,000. Chad Rutherford of Itasca, Texas claimed the second position with 84 points, taking home $6,500. Donny Proffit, of Diamondville, La., rounded up the top three with a score of 83 points, earning $2,500.
Peyton Walters of Justin, Texas, and Joe Mattern of Plantersville, Texas won the team roping event with exceptional teamwork, clocking in at 5.52 seconds to claim $15,250. This was Mattern's third time winning a WCRA event, pushing his WCRA earnings over $170,000. Riley Kittle of Carbon, Texas, and Jace Helton of Tolar, Texas secured the second spot with a time of 5.60 seconds, earning $6,750. James Arviso of Seba Dalkai, Ariz., and Buddy Hawkins of Stephenville, Texas took third place with a time of 6.97 seconds, winning $2,750.
Cody Doescher of Webbers Falls, Okla., demonstrated speed and precision in steer wrestling, with a time of 4.25 seconds, earning him the first-place prize of $15,000. Cody Cabral of Hilo, Hawaii, secured the second spot with a time of 5.00 seconds, taking home $6,500. Chase Crane of Oklahoma City, Okla., rounded out the top three with a time of 5.25 seconds and a $2,500 prize.
Cash Wilson of Wall, S.D., won the saddle bronc riding event with an impressive 86.5-point ride on Squash Blossom Steely Dan, earning him the top position and a $15,000 prize. Gus Gaillard of Morse, Texas, and Isaac Diaz of Desdemona, Texas shared the second and third spots, each scoring 85.5 points and winning $4,500.
In breakaway roping, Jordan Jo Hollabaugh of Springtown, Texas, dominated the event with a swift 2.33-second run, securing the top spot and a $15,000 prize. Stephenville, Texas' Josey James claimed the second position with a time of 2.63 seconds, earning $6,500. Kelsie Domer of Dublin, Texas, took third place with a time of 3.00 seconds and a $2,500 prize.
Shad Mayfield of Clovis, N.M., won the tie-down roping event with an impressive 8.31-second performance, earning him the title and $15,000. Guy Raasch of Sweeny, Texas, secured the second spot with a time of 8.33 seconds, winning $6,500. Kyle Lucas of Luther, Okla., rounded out the top three with a time of 8.85 seconds, taking home $2,500.
In barrel racing, Stephanie Fryar of Waco, Texas, showcased speed and agility on "Fast Frank" with a time of 15.323 seconds, earning her the top prize of $15,000. Kindyl Scruggs of Southhaven, Miss., secured the second spot with a time of 15.334 seconds, winning $6,500. Cari Titsworth of McAlester, Okla., took third place with a time of 15.449 seconds and a $2,500 prize.
Fryar was one of only three athletes who were still eligible for the WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo $1 million bonus in the final round. She competed fiercely and managed to outperform her opponents, securing her second consecutive WCRA Major win after her triumph at October’s WCRA Rodeo Carolina. If Fryar wins May’s Rodeo Corpus Christi, she will become the second and final recipient of the bonus.
In the bull riding event, only three bull riders managed to cover their bull. Joao Henrique Lucas of Whitesboro, Texas claimed the top spot with an impressive 88.5-point ride on Cheddar Bisquit, earning $15,666. Clayton Sellars of Stephenville, Texas secured the second position with 87.5 points, taking home $7,167. Deklan Garland of Marlo, Okla., rounded out the top three with a score of 84 points and a $3,167 prize.
