Vans recently gave one of its most timeless silhouettes a modern update built for all the wear and tear that comes with today's skating. A cupsole Old Skool? What a time to be alive, huh!? With the updates, we got a tough, new skate-ready shoe that keeps the classic look in place while dialing things in where it actually matters.

Hot on the heels of the debut drop, Vans just hit us with a fresh colorway of the Old Skool Wafflecup in Black/Gum. Get a closer look below:

"The Skate Old Skool Wafflecup Shoe brings modern skate performance to one of Vans’ most recognizable silhouettes," the Vans site reads. "Built with Wafflecup™ construction, it combines the support and durability of a cupsole with the board feel and flexibility Vans is known for. Reinforced for hard wear and finished with impact protection underfoot, this version keeps the Old Skool’s iconic look intact while delivering a more supportive, skate-ready ride."

At its core, the Old Skool Wafflecup blends the iconic style of the OG Old Skool with the added support and durability of a cupsole. It's not every day we see one of the most timeless vulcanized silhouettes ever transformed into a cupsole, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't work. As skateboarding progresses, so does all the gear that surrounds it. This seemed like an obvious next step design-wise, if you ask me. Super rad.

We saw the classic Black/White colorway drop recently and the Black/Gum feels like the perfect follow up. I haven't tried these yet personally, but you can bet I'm curious. If you squint your eyes, you really can't see much of a difference, to be honest. All you Vans purists, eat your heart out!
