So you want to start filming skateboarding, making edits, be your crew's filmer, get some likes, maybe even get some of those Instagram bonus dollars. The choices are varied—people still use over-the-shoulder VHS cameras from the '80s. Read on for our list of what we know people are using to make the videos you see every day on the internet. 4K, 8K, okay?

1. Sony FX6

The most current 4K bad boy, used by filming wizards like Collin Schwartz, as well as the filmers for brands like Primitive and Santa Cruz.

Primitive's Daydream used a lot of FX6 footage:

2. Panasonic HPX170

Every filmer's go-to in the modern age. Slap on the "xtreme fisheye"  lens or pull back long lens and get your Strobeck zoom on.

3. Sony VX1000

There are still a lot of holdouts for this, the most venerated camera to ever be aimed at a rolling skateboarder. The 4x3 aspect ratio, the sound, the light weight of the camera—see Josh Stewart's body of work for any and all questions.

4. GoPro

Still versatile to get to spots you can't reach, or slap one on your car's dashboard for a nice time-lapse. Chris Ray was the first to use these little bad boys in TransWorld videos and went on to be one of their ambassadors. BUY GOPRO HERE

5. Insta 360

Get a whole wide world view with these tricky yet versatile little cameras. Similar to a GoPro, yet Insta 360s can actually capture a full 360-degree view, and you can edit in-app to choose which angle you want to show. Check out Calvin Millar's work with these—a true master. BUY INSTA 360

6. Super 8

More of a companion camera, Super 8 cameras and their film are relatively cheap (but maybe the processing isn't these days) and can add a level of sophistication to your final edit. Check out the intro to FTC's Penal Code filmed by Aaron Meza for stellar use of this camera. enjoi made a beautiful all-Super 8 video to accompany Bag of Suck. Watch it below!

7. Hi8

Once the highest standard in the '90s, these compact video cameras are still seen in the streets. The hardest part about using them might be finding Hi8 tapes or the cables to connect to a modern-day laptop. Footage still looks sick, though. Min Maeweather made Tomboy on this bad boy you see below.

8. Panasonic VHS

Made popular in recent years by the Palace team and its videos—another format that'll have you combing thrift stores, garage sales and Facebook Marketplace. But run back the Palace vids—they're sick!

9. iPhone

Yes! You can disregard everything we've said above because a great camera resides in your pocket! As we're sure you've seen at your local skatepark, everyone wants to get their clips on video these days, and with the myriad editing apps available, you too can be an overnight Scorsese and have your skatepark edit racking up views in no time.
